I think the MFG's are concerned about the duty cycle of gas engines in "tractor" type applications. If you're making the gasser HD and durable enough to last under a continuous load I think we'd be surprised how fast the gas engine get's priced right up there with a diesel. RPM range in an engine is good in a car/truck where you're wanting to gear it to run 80+ MPH but I assume would be a challenge to set one up to make power in that 3k RPM and down range with a transmission that would work in the 0-25 MPH range. Hydrostatic/CVT would probably work ($$) but I think a geared transmission would be tough to make handy.

There's a lot of 50-80HP tractors out there (especially worldwide) that get used HARD every day so it would probably never be the answer for those customers. But for a strictly light duty "utility" tractor I think it makes sense.
