| Never quit here, but... to be honest, some of it is just a pride thing. There's no way you can really invest the time and put green beans or pickles in a jar cheaper than what you can buy them off the shelf. Very few people starting from scratch would have the persistence to see the thing through these days.
But, when it's ten below and miserable in January, going out to the garage and getting a jar of peach jam for my toast or a jar of sauce for spaghetti or a jar of tomato juice to make Bloody Marys with is a deeply satisfying thing that doesn't really have a $ sign attached to it. |
