Subject: RE: Hitchhiking

southern MN
I’ve mentioned it here before, about a decade ago I was finishing up spraying beans on the west side of my farm, came to the tar road and there was a fella walking, hitchhiking. Well on an open station tractor, hard not to wave and say hi he was right there.

I joked that I’m only going a mile but he could ride along, he said sure. I wasn’t expecting him to take me up on it. So he was just released from local county jail, car was impounded, and he was heading back to the Twin Cities.

Wheels turn in your head...... well, he isn’t likely to club me and steal a 1974 Ford 5200 as his getaway vehicle, so I should be ok. But, I hate to drop him off at my driveway as I turn in.... so I just kept on driving another half mile and turned into a field road, so I could drop him off past my place, and not indicat my location really.

Was an interesting deal, well past when hitchhiking was a common thing, back in the 70s or so would see someone with a duffle bag on the edge of town more often then not.
