Southern Ontario
My wife's great uncle was stationed near Hamilton, Ontario for training during WW2.
He was a boy from rural New Brunswick and was fascinated with the new things he was seeing around him.
He had a weekend off.....so he and a buddy decided to visit Henry Ford Museum.
Even with today's freeways, Dearborn Michigan is over 3 hours from Hamilton......across an international border.
But he said that they simply wore their uniforms and everyone was more than pleased to offer them rides. A ride was always available within seconds of them stepping to the side of the road.
They left very early and returned back to base very late and had a wonderful time exploring Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.
