Texas
There are a lot of self proclaimed “experts” in TX that like to bash anyone who mentions seeing a big black cat. Have heard a discussion that perhaps these black cats are something from South America. The real long mountain lions near the Red River are thought by some to be a variety from Mexico. I’m told they aren’t as tall and have a much longer tail.

I’ve only seen an actual live mountain lion up close once and that was in East TX. Don't know why but the guys I worked with doubted my sighting. A local guy had later told me that he had several sightings in his front yard over the years. It was worrisome enough that he never let his kids play outside alone. There’s a thick acreage of oak trees and thickets to the east. They have plenty to drink and eat. Lots of small deer they can easily catch.
