Subject: RE: Comments needed on 4 day school weeks

Our school district has been on a four day week schedule the last five-six years.

As others have mentioned the financial savings most likely won’t be what the “projections” are or there won’t be any at all.

Compressed scheduling is a difficult adjustment and presents on going challenges with extra curricular activities(majority of the other schools are still on a five day).

Faculty embrace the four day week more than the community does(at least here). Some fo which is perception but it does change the dynamics.

Students without support at home will struggle to keep up, most do just fine. We haven’t had a significant drop in standardized state assessment scores but no sustained improvement either.

Technology has definitely helped the transportability of the course work from school to home and it helps with the compressed scheduling.

Our first hand experience, two teenagers presently in school, has been “okay” but we are highly involved with our kids education and the activities they participate in.

As a parent & a tax payer I think they would’ve been better off staying with a five day week but going back most likely won’t happen.
