Pittsburg, Kansas | You need to discuss with your doctor about reducing the rate of insulin you take as you reduce the carb intake.
I personally went from 100 units per day in 4 shots to half that in one week, and in two weeks to zero insulin. I have not taken any insulin for right at one year now. Also got off two diabetes medicines, two blood pressure medicines and a couple other prescription medicines.
So it is very important to know how to de-prescribe medicines and that is a job for your professional healthcare provider.
If a person is taking insulin or drugs that promote endogenous insulin, not adjusting the rates appropriately could cause a hypoglycemic event resulting in a diabetic coma or death. So it is important a person gets it right. Your doctor can tell you how to adjust the insulin downward as the carbs are reduced in the diet.
