I have a dog that ran off with a pack of dogs because 2 were in heat. He would be gone for 4 or 5 days then come home and eat then gone again. This went on for a month or more. Then one day he came home and stayed. One day he got a little aggressive toward me . One good kick in the ribs and he was back to normal. So yes it can happen in my opinon.
