Burying any kind of data wire next to (in parallel with) a power line is a bad idea. The power conductors will create a magnetic field that will induce a voltage on the data wires. That can cause errors on the data line. Network cable is twisted pair, which helps a ton to reduce this issue, but it's not totally immune from it.
If it was my system, I'd either use a pair of Ubiquiti wireless bridges, or run a conduit and pull in pre-terminated fiber. The Ubiquiti wireless solution should be less than $150 total.
It might be a bad idea, but it works well on the rest of the yard where we have done this. Direct burial Cat5 has an aluminum sheath on it which probably largely mitigates the magnetic field problem. The difference on this run is the distance. All of the other runs are shorter. |
