Your situation almost parallels mine-wife & I both decided to drop about 20 lb. My downfall was milk & cookies at bedtime, lifelong habit inherited from my Dad & Grandma...that's been the hardest part, going to unsweetened tea wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I dropped 3 lb. the first week, only 1 the second, but we went camping & cheated a little on the diet...
John Burns, your original post came at just the right time, gave me the kick in the butt I needed...you deserve a lot of credit, looks like you've helped a bunch of people.
Edit: I have been called pre-diabetic by my doctor, mostly due to family history, my Mom had type II for years. My hope is to head it off before it develops. Doc actually wanted to get me on a bunch of meds for that & blood pressure which isn't really high yet either...I said screw that, I saw Mom & Grandma both on that pill merry-go -round...
