Subject: Winter wheat for cover crop in NE IL?

Chebanse, IL.....

On Prevent Plant acres in NE IL, how well does it work to plant plain old winter wheat on/after the legal date, which I think is June 20-something. Will the wheat grow very tall by freeze time in November-Dec?

Will it winter kill....hopefully?

If it doesn't winter kill, will it be hard to kill in the spring of 2020?

It seems like it should be an economical seed since bin-run would be the likely choice, assuming it's somewhat clean. It would seem the intent would be to cover the dirt to inhibit erosion & weed growth.

Would 60# per acre broadcast spread & incorporated with some tool be satisfactory? It looks like volunteer wheat grows pretty easily out the back of combines here in July.

Any other thoughts or criticisms? I realize the net return on nutrient level should be close to 0.0. But, the cost will be low, therefore risk will be low.
