North Central Kansas | I was fortunate that I was able to get my dad to open up and share some of his stories with me. With the help of Google and the US archives I was able to get his units after action reports before he passed away and go over them with him. He was in the Artillery. His unit arrived in Europe in August long after the breakout from Normandy had occurred. He drove a jeep off of an LST onto Utah beach at 2:30 in the morning in September 1944. They did not enter combat until early November near Born, Netherlands.
My dad was a farmer as well. He could have taken the deferment but felt like it was his duty to go. | |
