Here is the after action reports for the 90th Division which the 359th was assigned. It says they were near Gonfreville, France during the 23-24th of July 1944. That is in the Cherbourg Peninsula to the SW of St Lo. The offensive that lead to the breakout from Normandy began the next day on July 25th.
