Subject: RE: Rear discharge mower

Southwest Illinois
I will be the odd man out. We mow a fair amount of grass and we have run Grasshoppers the last 20 years. Last year we replaced the older of the 2 with a 72" rear discharge and we love it. You can trim on either side and you never have to worry about grass clippings in the landscaping or rocks getting out of the side discharge. I have heard complaints that it doesn't handle tall grass well, but I don't see it being any worse than our side discharge. I like that it lays the grass across the entire mower width compared to a side discharge that unless you remove the shield will only throw it 3 foot. We do clean the radiator out more as it will pull more grass up. It is usually not an issue until mid summer/fall when you get into a lot of really dry grass. When we replace our older side discharge it will be with a rear discharge.
