The best for preserving stalks are the old Massey and Gleaner heads from the 70s and 80s. I think the Gleaners were a bit more trouble-free. Have someplace that specializes in corn heads build whatever size you need from old parts (refurbishing gear boxes etc). Keep the "worn out" rolls, because that's what you want.
If you can't stand to go down that path, I'd buy an older JD model -- prior to the 600-series. (90-series, 40-series), and install the least-aggressive rolls you can find, preferably "worn out." |
