NW Iowa | I bet that would be a sight to see during planting. i have always been curious about farming small non-square fields as a way of life. Here it is most square 160 acre quarters without much to break them up. Have a friend near the Illinois/Kentucky border whose farms are similar. Small fields often border by creeks or timber. One day he asked me, "you always talk about farming a quarter, what is that? 40 acres?" I said "No it is 160 acres" and he about fell out of the chair because he had never heard of a field that big. I told him he needed to see farming in the Dakotas where you can find fields of 1000 acres continuous. Pretty neat to see the difference. | |
