Subject: RE: Wood splitter wedge design?

Near-north Ontario, French River
As of right now we are just testing things out, so yes we are using the tractor hydraulics to run the splitter. The wedge itself just drops in a slot, but in the future I may add a small ram on the bottom to raise and lower the wedge when I want to. The splitter ram is off a 325 Cat excavator, I believe its 6" bore, so its got some push to it even when running off the tractor at idle. When finished I will have a PTO pump to supply the entire outfit, as the tractor hydraulics don't have enough flow to get decent cycle times. I'd appreciate any pictures of your 6 way splitter if you have some to share.
