Subject: RE: Crop insurance for small farmers

NW KS/ SC ID
It pays "here" Ever since the folks bought the place in 99, there has been some sort of insurance carried. Drought or hail are major causes of loss out here.

I officially took over the farm when I planted winter wheat in fall of 2016 for the 2017 season, and so far, I have yet to harvest a wheat crop. Hammered into the dirt.

Corn gets shredded, but so far has yet to wipe it out thankfully. KS can get storms bad enough it will mow tall corn to the dirt. IIRC last year near Wakeeney KS there was some 5 foot tall corn taken to the dirt in about an hour.

So yes, I am small, I carry it, and it pays. Your area is quite different so your results may vary.
