Anymore it seems like most farm yards have 3 vintages of equipment around, you got your M farmalls and 70 john deeres for picking rocks and dragging the yard then your 1066 5088 4020 4440's for the medium duty stuff and then the newer tractors with the hydraulic and electrical capacity made in the last 15 years that go to the field and do the planting harvesting and your major jobs with. Dealers are going to keep things on the lot that they have a margin in. If they trade in an M they might be able to make $200 if they trade in a 4020 they might make $2000 If they have late model stuff they probably can have $20,000 margin. With the interweb these days who goes to a dealer looking for an older used tractor? Seems like most are bought and sold privately now. In all honestly i would be more skeptical of a 4440 or 5088 vintage tractor on a dealer lot than i would be buying it private when i can drive on the guys yard and get a pretty good feel for how it was taken care of.
