I leave my vehicles run when doing errands and such. 90% of engine wear occurs at startup. If you're not going anywhere, why does it need run throughout the day? It cools off so fast in this cold you'd have to warm it up every hour.
I don't think there is much engine wear on startup of a warm engine. I always shut mine off if I'm going to be out more than 30 seconds. The engine is warm, theres warm oil still on the cylinder walls, and it builds oil pressure immediately. Oils and engines are a lot more advanced now than 20 years ago. Engines seem to last forever if maintained correctly. Now a cold start on a very cold day will probably be hard on the vehicle. |
