Subject: Idling/starting throughout day in cold

Central ND
Wife and her side of the family as well as best friend believe that in subzero temps you should start your vehicle, idle, shut off, restart, idle, repeat throughout the day just to keep it warm.

My thought is its either gonna start or it wont. The battery will have enough charge or it wont. And if its already -25F when you do that first start, its pointless. Just a waste of gas to me and hard on the engine. Excessive idling in the cold also just washes and dries out the cylinders.

Whats ag talks thoughts on starting a vehicle throughout the day in the cold just to let it warm up?

Isnt the best thing to just add heat to gas and have your battery checked BEFORE it gets cold. I mean once things are cold, why warm it up to cool it off, to warm it up and so on, if the vehicle just sits there. Not like its gonna get to operating temp at -25F just idling.
