I bought a NordicTrack about 4-5 years ago.  Thankfully I bought the extended warranty because the control board has failed three times.  If I were buying one again I'd go to the local shop that sells the good stuff and buy a used Landice L6 or L7.  I passed on an L7 in October for $2,200.  Running on one is the closest thing to outside as I've ever found.  They are smooth and quiet.
