Subject: RE: Electric vehicles

Southeast PA
As usual, most don't look at the unintended consequences and future consequences. What happens to the electric rates if all these cars come onto the grid? They will skyrocket, because people are not going to want to charge just at home. They will need to charge at work, at the grocery store, basically anywhere they go. (Think how many gas stations are around you or you pass everyday) Yes there may be fast chargers at charging stations, but how many will want to wait that 10-15 minutes or however long it takes? They would rather charge while at work, or at the store while they are already doing something else.

People complain about pipelines buried underground, what about when there are huge numbers of large electric lines run everywhere, and there will have to be for the grid to handle the possible demand of all these charging locations. Think about the demand charges then! How much worse will the power outages be during bad storms when you have more lines to be taken out by trees, etc etc? The power company isn't going to put it all in for free.

Don't even get started on how bad for the environment the battery manufacture will be. I know, the govt will regulate that too! And then it will all be clean! BS! Think about when they shoved cfl's down our throats and all the mercury that is in the trash from people throwing them out because they're too lazy or don't know they should be disposed of properly.

The free (if there is such a thing anymore) market should be left alone to decide what vehicles people want. If the govt requires one energy over another, then the price of the other energy will drop, leading to govt subsidizing the crap out of the energy they pick, and who pays for that? Why the good old taxpayer!
