Maybe in Europe & the UK..There are parts of the US where the distance between towns, or any civilization at all, is farther than the distance across your whole country. And when you do hit a town, it's not likely to have a charging station. Electric vehicles are a long way from being practical in those areas...but I suppose the few of us that live out here can just go back to horses & oxen when the oil companies go out of business.

Those of us out in the boon docks can run hybrid equipment, Diesel like fuel economy while burning cheap clean gasoline. I am on my third Hybrid and love the reliable efficiency of a 50+ mpg Prius or 40 mpg on my 1000 pound heavier Lincoln hybrids. Can go a long way on 14 gallons of gas. The hybrid systems seem dead reliable as I am well beyond 100,000 miles on them. Ford is set to produce a hybrid F150 some time this year.
