I was in local shop today to get some tires fixed and they had a 2018 subaru on the rack for service. The fricking oil filter was in the engine bay on a special built pedestal on the front left corner under the hood in plain sight with a small drain basin built in to that mount. I could actually see the bell housing bolts too. Looks like the big 3 here need to learn some of that.

I guess they've learned since my 2010 Outback 2.5. Its oil filter is underneath completely surrounded by the exhaust manifold. If you don't burn yourself on the manifold, the oil running down to your elbow will. I've learned to loosen it with a welding glove and then put a plastic bag over the glove and work quickly. Punching a hole in the filter doesn't seem to release all oil and some still runs down.
Our 2014 grand caravan is much better, up on top cartridge filter means no mess and easy access!
