Subject: RE: Looking for a cheap, reliable self propelled sprayer- 854 or tyler patriot?

I have had both. First self propelled was a Patriot XL and it was much better than a pull type in my opinion. Sold that and got an 854 and it really was a step up. The larger cab and more horsepower were the biggest upgrades when I went to the Rogator. The Patriots with the 4 cylinder JD motor only put out 125hp. If you are all flat and you could get by but a full tank on any hills and it really struggles. You will be in first gear and still wish you had more power. Some later ones had bigger engines and would be better. They are good little sprayers and light weight but if you can find a decent 854 I think you would be happier. As others noted the only real downside to them for me was they are rough riding. Maybe get a new enough one to have the air ride cab. They are built like tank but can ride like one too.
