| Pecans were hit hard. No releif from goverment. Tarriff increase feom 7 to 47%. Pecan prices paid to farmer down 50%. China was big buyer at 100 million lbs if the total 300million lbs US produced. Yes pecans are a small market but its the small market with no real voice that get hit the hardest.
We had a great relationship with china that now even if the trade war ends on a high note i doubt we will ever recoop that market as they are going elsewhere due to being screwed around. And likewise US brokers probably dont want to get burned agian by this china relationship deal.
Why would trump start a trade war during fall/winter? That is the time we sell off crops, buy big orders if metal and other meterials, holiday buying of chineese electronics and home goods for xmas. Business ending fiscal year and q4 projections. Seemed like a poor move. Maybe its china putting the squeeze on us?
Aso not only are prices low i would not doubt this year we produce the smallest crop in decades. Alotof harvest delay to rain in the pecan belt and hurricane micheal not only devistated georgias pecan crop but took out 3/4 million acres of trees.
