For liquids and gasses to change state they have to have energy added or release energy to do so.
The liquid refrigerant changes from liquid to gas in the evaporator, and absorbs heat. Because it evaporates.
Changes from gas to liquid in the condenser, and gives up that heat.
Wind-chill again! How about air conditioning?.............
