If I remember correctly, it was Syngenta that caused the problem. I'm pretty sure it was Syngenta's corporate greed or negligence that got them into trouble, not China.
China had/has the perfect right to control the introduction of genetically modified maize into their country. Just like the US government has the perfect right to regulate genetically modified organisms in this country.
Be careful, if you deny China sovereignty over their food safety issues then they get to use it against you in the future.
In the history of food & drug approvals there are many examples of drugs legal in other countries which caused great harm or were ineffective. Thalidomide comes to mind, as does apricot kernels as anti-cancer treatments in Mexico.


I will not deny that Syngenta was negligent. But China used that solely to their advantage. There is no denying that.
