Here we don't start until August. To much vegetative growth will promote white mold.

I'd have nothing left to water if I waited until August 1...

I'll put an inch out every 3-4 days from just before blooming until I see the beans touch in the pods. Irrigation here in the south means the difference between 20-30bu/ac and 70-80bu/ac or more. Watering down the furrow is actually better here. Can put on more water and hold it longer. Let's it soak in. A pivot is only good for .75-1" a circle here as the ground won't hold a pivot up with it putting it out any more. There's plenty of acres that won't take a pivot applying 1/2" a circle before the ruts are waist deep. Tons of acres under pivots here that should have never had one put up on. Too flat to get any decent drainage and ruts can be atrocious real quick.
. What soils do y’all have? Here we normally water once a week to get 70 to 80 bu acre. Every three days here is too much for us. My in-laws farm soybeans yielded 104 bu/acre non irrigated this year. Buckshot gumbo with the perfect amount of showers.
