Subject: RE: Irrigating Soybeans

Central Ohio
It was interesting this year, as we received irrigation type rainfall nearly the entire summer all the way through crop maturity. The beans were 135% of aph sort of good. What I observed with the beans was that the marginal and thin soil areas (as long as fertility is there) were phenomenal while the best ground was actually worse than it would be in a dryer year even if it had tile.

This seemed to be a result of two things: increased disease pressure in the heavy ground and increased lodging in the heavy ground.

Did not have much at all of the 100+ bu. areas of the fields that the best spots often are. They dropped into the 60-70 range while all the rest was 150% of normal.
