Central IL | I always felt the best thing to do in these situations was to find a time when there was not a conflict to sit down with the youngster and discuss with him how being strong willed (stubborn) could be a strength when times were difficult but hurtful to oneself and others when misdirected.
As the parent you are right to insist that he obey when directed by his parents, but if he wants to go to bed hungry, he is only causing himself some temporary discomfort and so letting him do so would be a good reminder about the foolishness of being overly stubborn. (I personally only had to go to bed hungry one time as a child before I figured out that was a bad plan.)
Two most important things to remember are to pray for wisdom and guidance from our heavenly Father and that God gives each parent who asks unique wisdom to guide and direct their own children that he has entrusted to you. | |
