You may want to visit a store and "road test" an iPad or tablet, make sure it is going to work for her. On screen tablet keyboard is ok for short pieces but something like this is slow going for me.
The newer keyboards with all flat keys might feel a bit different if you are accustomed to a unit which has keys with molded depressions.
