Neither, unless you're itching to do it again in a few years. Used RR ties were taken out of service for a reason, and new ones are cost prohibitive. Raw pipe, especially contaminated drill stem, will prematurely rot your wire. Galvanized schedule 40, or SS40 (not stainless, but a trade designation for commercial fence pipe....class III galvanized higher tensile steel, but just a little thinner than schedule 40) driven deep with a welded brace would be my preferred option. We use a minimum 10'long, 4" diameter for a terminal/corner on stock fence, and will weld on another stick and keep on driving if the ground is soft. We've driven more than 20' in the ground like that on deer/game fence jobs. For the low end of an angled brace, we use a minimum of 8' in the ground.

FWIW, raw pipe and used drill stem are great for pens and pipe fence. Not so great to hang your wire on, since the sacrificial anode properties of the galvanized coating will quickly go to work trying to save the post. It works alright in the desert, but not so much in wet or humid areas. This is also why using class III staples and ties is important.
