southern MN | I would run some good lumber under the door track 2x if you can make that fit and make it wide enough to make up what you are short on. Run it all the way to the corner of the shed. This would make a real nice header to hang the door from.
Then fit the car siding up to the 2x from below and above.
You will 'see' the 2x but it will look ok as part of the lines of the door frame.
You then can fit new siding (which is narrower than the old stuff) up with the old, without a few pieces showing up very much.
If looks matter.
The plywood is probably easy, if looks don't matter, but that would bug me.
Or, you could peel a few pieces of old car siding off the wall 'out behind' and use them to fit in here. Then put some plywood over the hole 'out behind' where no one will ever see it. This would be the cheapest, and look the best, but you won't have the strongest door header...... you could get enough peeled off the side no one sees to fix up all of the bad stuff up above, maybe even?
