Just go buy a 20ft treated 2x10 and lash it on with torx wood screws to each stud and hang the door off that. Sure it's going to stick out further than the siding, but when the time comes that you want to cover it with tin, you could probably just use some lath as spacers on top of the old siding so you could lay the steel sheets flush with the 2x10.

Edit: if you do use treated lumber make sure you use screws that are approved for that use on the box. Treated lumber will dissolve the wrong kind of screws in just a few years.
