Subject: RE: Cover crop for fertilizer

ehoff - 1/23/2018 04:49 The people that are doing it are intensively multi species covercrop and are mob grazing and fit a crop into the rotation every couple of years. Gabe Brown comes to mind.

There's a lot more to Gabe Brown's story as to why he doesn't need fertilizer.  For one thing, he grows a heck of a lot of alfalfa in rotation.  He forgets to mention that.  Also, he applies huge amounts of manure -- not much grain leaves his farm.  He feeds much of what he grows, plus buys hay in.  So he's got a fairly closed system when it comes to P.
