is it possible to get all your fertilizer needs from cover crops?

Yes. How much time do you have? How diverse of a rotation of crops do you raise? Soybeans only? Livestock?

Economics usually dictate that a few dollars spent on soluble nutrients earns a higher return than the time value for bugs & plants to do it all by themselves. But ignoring the bug & plant potential contributions and giving all your $ to the fertilizer salesman becomes costly too.
