Putting out N fertilizer at planting just doesn't help the cotton that much. The 500,000+ years of cotton genetics has Indian-Egyptian origans and the Mid South is Not that environment. Did you know you could scald cotton seed at 175 degrees for 2 minutes and it would accelerate cotton sprouting. That amazed me and let me know how much cotton responds to temps and bright sunshine. Cotton N uptake per day is greatest around the 2nd week of flowering/early bloom for the next 4 weeks. That's in July and August.
