Sanilac Co. Michigan | I like 100# of 11-52-0, 100# of 0-0-60 and 100# of 10-34-0+Zn in the seed furrow. That gives me sufficient nitrogen for any fall growth and tillering. The P and K spread is to replace removal from the beans or help build levels. The in furrow puts the P where it'll do the most good. Split N in the spring, first shot a combination of AMS and urea. That stimulates tillering (as needed) and provides an S source...lot less likely to lose it to leaching then spread in the fall. Follow up at jointing with 28-0-0 and any other micros needed.
Nope, wheat ain't a cheap crop to grow when you figure in fungicide, PGR's, herbicide as well as fertilizer. Thing is, a 75 or 80 bushel crop isn't really much cheaper to grow than a 100-110 bushel crop. Just a matter of a little more attention to details and a willingness to make more trips across the field.
Probably get stoned by a few people, but for the extra effort you might just as well grow white wheat and get a premium price, if you can sell into that market! | |
