In my opinion this is the wrong way to look at it. A hired man is going to cost more and more every single year. He's a fixed cost with no resale value. The cultivator may cost $80,000 but will be around for multiple years and still have a value at the end. What needs to be evaluated is the annual cost of ownership (depreciation, taxes, repairs, interest) compared to the cost of the hiring the additional help and weather or not your current labor force can complete the work. Also, the iron doesn't ask for days off, have sick kids, need to go to the doctor, have girlfriend problems, or need health insurance. |
