Their is good and bad in both and you have to weigh it for yourself. If you are a home body that is out at the farm every single day, an employee may be great for you. If you like to take short or extended trips good luck equipment shopping in 2 years when you fire the employee no matter how good he is. You will learn having employees will mean you are tied down. You can not expect employees to vacation the same time you do, you can not expect them to want to always work as many hours as you do,and you can not expect them to know your operation like you do.
The likely hood of finding a good employee the first go round is extremely unlikely. Just like you could buy a piece of junk tractor even though you thought you really looked it over good. Larger equipment can make your life a lot easier and so could a good hired man but a larger tractor could break down in the spring or fall and put you way behind and employees can quit your first day planting putting you way behind. Everyone needs to pick their own poison.
