My first semi & still have is Frtlnr with a 3306 Cat at 300 hp with a steel 36' trailer-a little light on power especially on the road-can haul 800 to 850 bu. I'd say for you pulling a 40' trailer a little more power would be better. I also have a 9200 IH with a 410 HP C-12 & its about right on a 36' steel hopper. Relatives have a 525 HP on a 42' Alum.
