In our experience we needed to add water at a rate of 10% minimum (15-20% works a LOT better) of the total pounds to get a dry ration to mix a little better and to feed into the bunk better. Also cuts down on the dust.
Adding silage or wet cake or syrup or molasses to the dry mix is better yet.
