Subject: Verticle Mixers and All Dry Ration

Is it possible to be able to do a all dry ration through a verticle mixer or do you almost always need some type of high moisture product to uniformly mix? If you do need high moisture product in the ration what is the minimum is needed.

With the drought there just isn't much good hay available. I've put up small grain hay that I'm sure is going to be high in nitrates and prairie hay that hasn't been cut in years that has plenty of old dry material in it. I'm plannning on puttin up a fair amount of corn stalk bales.

So the ration I've been comtemplating without putting the numbers too it would be 20 lbs cornstalks/hd/day, 10 lbs hay/hd/day, and 3 lbs DDG to get them through mid gestation. Would that not mix ok? Could go with WDG but just not keen at getting a big semi load in on the ground and then have a warm up of 50 degrees and having it spoil.
