Spend the money, get it surveyed and settled.  I wouldn't make a big deal out of it and mess up family.  Down the road if you don't do it, it will probably cause bigger problems for somebody.  Decide where that 20 acres is and fence it off.

Tell them that it's to make things easier for future generations and that you're just cleaning things up.
