Mississippi

Thanks for the comments, particularly about Farmshow. We don't get that one, and I'll see about rustling up a subscription. I've heard of it, but I'm not sure it has much circulation down here (Mississippi).

For years, we (meaning me and my wife, Debra Ferguson) put together a lot of content for Soybean Digest. The quest back then was to get as many of those homemade rigs in the magazine as possible. Clem Marley was a legend for finding stuff like that. There tends to be more "home brew" equipment and mechanical experimentation in the Midwest, I think, than in the South. Maybe its the longer winter period that keeps people in the shop up there. Also, labor maybe has always been cheaper down here, so there was less emphasis on one-pass farming and other things to reduce the number of tractors. There have been people in the South who, in fact, looked for those kinds of efficiencies, but Clem always seemed to have a wider selection of new ideas on SB's pages.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to take it into account.
