I have found the best way is think like you on the combine when planting! I always plant with the boundary on my right and pick the opposite way.
Pull up to the fence with the front of the tractor and planter then lift, turn, backup to fence, drop and go.
When combining go the opposite way around the field.

One other thing with 30" rows you can go cross ways with very little loss.

ps: I've been known to ask the help "who planted this field" knowing full well it was me!
