Have you compared the two treatments using the practical farmers protocol?
This is how I've compared cover practices (none vs covers) the past 5 years. No response to covers up to a few bu adv to having covers. Only outlier was the drought of 2012 when corn took a big hit of 11-14 bpa loss behind FALL killed covers. Field length strips, replicated 3 times.
