Rolla, ND | Okay so it is a false NDVI, but did you also flip the color scheme? The standard has long been red is plants on an NDVI and it looks like the company is still using that. I know now companies are going to a different color scheme in many cases. Looks like you are assuming a new scheme where green means green and looking at a traditionally colored picture where basically red means green.
You should also be aware that NDVI saturates quite soon in a growing season. I prefer a green NDVI for most things largely because it doesn't saturate as soon.
Enhanced Vegetative Index might be even better than green if you are going to do a lot of canopy work and should help with the problems introduced by shooting at different times of the day and haze.
